Im Land der Märchen aus 1001 Nacht
Es war einmal… Sindbad der Seefahrer, die Weihrauchstrasse und die Heiligen Drei Könige — die spannende und ereignisreiche Vergangenheit Omans ist längst bekannt. Die stolzen Menschen und atemberaubenden Landschaften hinter diesen Legenden sind noch immer ein gut gehütetes Geheimnis, welches sich zu entdecken lohnt. Uns erwarten endlose Weiten, traumhafte Strände, zerklüftete Hochgebirge, idyllische Oasen und eine überaus gastfreundschaftliche Bevölkerung.
So dürfen wir neben schönen Radkilometern auf besten Strassen die Kultur und Gepflogenheiten dieses Landes in ihrer ursprünglichen Form entdecken. Moderne und Tradition reichen sich hier auf oft eindrücklichste Art die Hände. Spätestens bei einem Becher Omani Kaffee im Schatten eines Baumes mitten im Nirgendwo sind wir in diesem Land definitiv angekommen und für immer verbunden.

Anreise
We meet at the airport in Zurich. Flight from Zurich - Muscat at approx. 13.30 hrs with arrival in Muscat at approx. 22.00 hrs. Afterwards transfer to the hotel.
Samstag, 26. Oktober 2024
After a leisurely breakfast, we head to Muscat for a sightseeing tour. Then transfer along the coast to Al Musanaah. In the evening we enjoy a welcome aperitif with the tour guide followed by dinner together.
Sonntag, 27. Oktober 2024
Wadi Al Hawasna – Ibri (approx. 98 km / 1,090 m)
We take the bus along the coast until we finally get on our bikes shortly after Al-Khaburah. We are immediately struck by the silence that reigns in these empty mountains. The route takes us past a few small villages, further and further into the wild mountain world. After almost 100 kilometres, we reach our destination and take the bus to our hotel in Ibri.
Montag, 28. Oktober 2024
Ibri – Bahla (100 km / 400 m altitude)
Today's day on the bike consists of exploring a beautiful valley dominated by the mighty mountain massifs of Jabal Khawr and the striking Jabal Misht. The valley is home to tombs dating back thousands of years, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as 3 beautiful oases. The pass at the end of the valley up to the mountain plateau with the small villages of Sint and Sant complete the ensemble. We stop briefly at Al Ain to visit the tombs and the oasis opposite. Then it's a relaxed 20 kilometres to the starting point of the tour at the entrance to the valley.

Al Hamra – Sharf Al Almayn (60 km / 1,600 metres altitude)
After visiting old Bahla, today we enter the impressive mountain world of the country, with mountains that are all over 2000 metres high and canyons that are up to 2000 metres deep. We drive past large plantations and an ostrich farm to Tanuf. From here we drive through beautiful gardens to the lively centre of Al Hamra, from where we drive up to 2000 m above sea level and spend the night in a simple mountain hotel.

Rest day/cultural day Misfah – Al Hamra – Nizwa
After breakfast, we take the bus to Misfah and visit the old village, including lunch. Here we learn a lot about the ancient culture of Oman before travelling on to Al Hamra and finally to our new hotel in Nizwa.
Donnerstag, 31. Oktober 2024
Wadi Mahram – Ibri (80 km / 1,200 metres altitude)
Parts of today's stage have already been ridden by the pros in the Tour of Oman! First, we cycle 50 kilometres through the wonderful mountain world of Wadi Mahram to a small pass. This is followed by a kilometre-long descent into the wide Wadi Indam, where the route continues flat until our lunch stop.
Freitag, 01. November 2024
Nizwa – Wadi Tayyin – Muscat (80 km / 1,000 metres altitude)
A quiet road leads us into the mountain landscape, where the route tends to be downhill until the lunch stop in Wadi Tayyin. The afternoon is a tough one, however, with 700 metres of ascent over 45 km! However, this route takes us through wonderfully picturesque regions and is therefore a good challenge to complete. Finally, we are back at the hotel in Muscat and review our experiences and impressions over a final dinner together and toast to a great trip.
Samstag, 02. November 2024
Today is the return journey. After a 6.5-hour flight, we land together in Switzerland at around 3.30 pm.
